Summer Safety Tips for Grilling Outside

6/13/2018 (Permalink)

Summertime and grilling on the patio go hand in hand. After a long, cold winter and too much time indoors, we all look forward to getting outside and enjoying the warm weather with our families. Unfortunately, 5700 home grill-related fires occur each year, resulting in injury and more than $37 million in property damage. Keep your family and home safe this year by following some basic grill safety rules:

1. Keep your grill a safe distance from your home, deck rails, overhanging branches, and people. Heat from the grill can melt siding and the grill fire can flame up, catching nearby structures and objects on fire.

2. Trim the excess fat from the meat before grilling.

3. Use a wire scrub brush to keep your grill and the trays below clean. Accumulated grease and debris can catch fire quickly.

4. Never leave a grill unattended. Keep a watchful eye on children and pets.

Even under the most careful conditions, house fires can happen. If your home has been damaged by smoke or fire, call SERVPRO of Hamilton County at 317-773-0422. Our professionals have the training and expertise to get your home back to its pre-fire condition quickly.
